Amanda Pappas has scored 14 goals in her last three games.

BALTIMORE—The UMBC women’s lacrosse team (6-3) saw its three-game winning streak end in a 15-8 loss to sixth-ranked Loyola (7-0) Wednesday evening at UMBC Stadium.

The Greyhounds scored the first two goals of the game just over a minute apart, and the Retrievers did not get on the board until senior midfielder Amanda Pappas (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) converted a feed from junior midfielder Alicia Krause (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron/Duquesne) with 14:41 to play in the first half.

Loyola scored three in a row and five of the next six goals before Pappas ended the half on a high note for UMBC, tallying with 29 seconds left, but the Retrievers trailed, 7-3, at the break.

The Greyhounds scored the first three goals of the second stanza in less than four minutes, but UMBC responded with three in a row in a 58-second span to pull to within 10-6. But that would be as close as they would get, as Loyola tallied five of the final seven goals of the game for the 15-8 win.

The America East Player of the Game, Pappas scored five points on four goals and an assist. She has tallied 14 goals and 17 points in her last three contests. Senior midfielder Ashley Stodter (Silver Spring, Md./Good Counsel) added her third hat trick of the season, while Krause tallied three points on a goal and two helpers to go along with four ground balls, two draw controls and a caused turnover.

Loyola midfielder Grace Gavin led the Greyhounds with seven points on four goals and three assists, while midfielder Marlee Paton tallied six points on four goals and two helpers. Midfielder Taryn Vanthof also notched a hat trick for the visitors, while midfielder Meg Decker controlled seven draws.

Senior goalie Natalie Rau (Forest Hill, Md./Fallston) made four saves between the pipes for the Retrievers, while Kerry Stoothoff stopped 11 shots for Loyola.

UMBC outshot the Greyhounds, 32-24, and held an 18-12 advantage in ground balls and a 13-11 edge in draw controls.

The Retrievers return to action on Saturday, when they host America East rival New Hampshire at 12 p.m. in the conference opener for both teams.
