Fahey Named America East Defensive Player of the Week

Jamie Fahey ranks second in the America East in caused turnovers.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—For the second time in three weeks, UMBC sophomore defender Jamie Fahey (Baldwin, Md./Loch Raven) has been named America East Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending March 6, the conference announced Monday.

Fahey continues to lead the Retrievers defensively, posting another superb week with five ground balls, four caused turnovers and five draw controls. She helped limit 17th-ranked Towson to just nine goals in a 10-9 upset victory by causing four turnovers, picking up five ground balls and winning five draw controls. Fahey then tallied two ground balls, two caused turnovers and a draw control against Duquesne on Saturday. Fahey and the Retriever defense allowed just 8.5 goals per game in two contests last week.

The reigning America East Rookie of the Year, Fahey ranks second in the conference with 1.8 caused turnovers per game, and she leads the Retrievers in ground balls (12) and caused turnovers (9) while ranking second on the team in draw controls (8).

Fahey was also named America East Defensive Player of the Week on Feb. 21.

The Retrievers return to action on Wednesday, when they host Delaware at 4 p.m.
