Sarah Willis finished her career with 109 ground balls, 71 draw controls and 62 caused turnovers.

BALTIMOREUMBC senior defender Sarah Willis (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) has been selected to play in the Division I North-South Senior All-Star Game, the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches’ Association (IWLCA) announced last week.

Willis is one of 40 student-athletes chosen to participate in the annual exhibition, which will take place on Saturday, June 12, at the United Sports Training Center in Downingtown, Pa., as part of the Champions’ Cup. Willis will play for the South squad, which consists of seniors from Division I schools in Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

A 2009 America East All-Conference Second Team selection, Willis has anchored UMBC’s defense for four years, starting 55 of 66 games in her career, including all 35 games over the last two seasons, and amassing 109 ground balls, 71 draw controls and 62 caused turnovers to go along with seven goals and four assists.

Willis, a team captain, ranked second on the Retrievers with a career-high 22 caused turnovers and third with 37 ground balls – also a career best – and 19 draw controls in 2010, and she was named to the America East All-Championship Team after helping to lead UMBC to its first-ever America East title game with three ground balls, two draw controls and a team-best four caused turnovers.

Willis is the fifth Retriever to be chosen for the North-South game since 2006, joining former teammates Kara Dorr (2009) and Ali Levendusky (2008), as well as Kelly Fiorani (2006) and Julie Libertini (2006).
