Retrievers Fall to No. 17 Towson, 15-7, in Women’s Lacrosse

    Ashley Stodter scored a career-high four goals against Towson.

    TOWSON, Md.Playing its third nationally ranked opponent in as many games, the UMBC women’s lacrosse team (2-3) dropped its third straight on Wednesday, falling to No. 17 Towson (1-0), 15-7, at Johnny Unitas Stadium.

     

    Junior midfielder Ashley Stodter (Silver Spring, Md./Good Counsel) led the Retrievers with a career-high four goals, while sophomore attack Alicia Krause (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron/Duquesne) tallied twice. Junior attack Erika Braerman (Fallston, Md./Fallston) added a goal and an assist.

     

    The Tigers scored the first four goals of the game before Stodter found the back of the net at the 15:02 mark of the first half. Krause made it 4-2 less than a minute later, but Towson scored four of the final five goals of the period to take an 8-3 lead at halftime.

     

    The hosts stayed hot to start the second stanza, tallying four straight in less than six minutes of action, but Stodter and Krause again curbed the run with back-to-back goals.

     

    Senior goalie Kate Quick (Phoenix, Md./Maryvale Prep) recorded nine saves in the loss and also picked up four ground balls and caused two turnovers, while Towson keeper Mary Teeters stopped five shots in net.

     

    Towson outshot UMBC, 35-21, and held a 26-19 advantage on ground balls and a 15-9 edge on draw controls.

     

    The Retrievers return to action on Friday, when they host Fresno State at 7 p.m. at UMBC Stadium.
