Pappas, Allen Garner America East Women’s Lacrosse Weekly Honors

Pappas scored a career-high seven goals, including the first goal of the game just 35 seconds in, as well as the game-winner, to lead UMBC to a 16-8 victory at George Mason last Tuesday. Her free-position goal with 13:25 remaining in the first half broke a 2-2 tie and sparked a 5-0 UMBC run which gave the Retrievers control of the game. She also scored the first two goals of the second half, as UMBC scored five straight to open the period. Pappas, who was 4-for-4 on free-position attempts, added two ground balls, a draw control and a caused turnover to her impressive performance.
Pappas leads the Retrievers with 11 goals and 12 points on just 15 shots so far this season.
Allen scored her first collegiate goal on a free-position attempt in UMBC’s victory over the Patriots. She also picked up three ground balls, won a draw control and caused a turnover.
Pappas and Allen give the Retrievers both Player and Rookie of the Week for the second straight week to open the season, as junior attack Erika Braerman (Fallston, Md./Fallston) and freshman midfielder Lindsay Cox (High Bridge, N.J./Voorhees) earned the awards last week.
The Retrievers return to action on Tuesday evening when they host 10th-ranked Loyola in their home opener.
