Braerman, Cox Earn First America East Women’s Lacrosse Honors

Erika Braerman earned her first career Player of the Week award.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.UMBC junior attack Erika Braerman (Fallston, Md./Fallston) was named America East Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week, while freshman midfielder Lindsay Cox (High Bridge, N.J./Voorhees) was tabbed Rookie of the Week for the first week of the season, the conference announced Monday.

 

Braerman led the Retrievers to a season-opening 18-2 win at Jacksonville on Feb. 6 with a career-high six points on four goals and two assists, marking her first career hat trick. She scored two goals in the first half as UMBC opened an 8-1 lead, then recorded two more goals, as well as her two helpers, in the second period. Braerman also picked up one ground ball and caused one turnover.

 

Cox recorded her first collegiate point with an assist against the Dolphins. She also picked up two ground balls, won two draw controls and caused a turnover.

 

The Retrievers return to action on Tuesday, when they take on George Mason at 5 p.m. in Fairfax, Va.
