The Retrievers led from the start, as Stodter netted a free-position goal just 27 seconds into the game. Braerman made it 2-0 before
UMBC scored six straight goals to end the period, including two more by Stodter, and led, 8-1, at halftime.
The Retrievers then scored the first 10 goals of the second stanza, including three straight by Pappas midway through the half.
