Two Retrievers Named to IWLCA Academic Honor Roll

BALTIMORE—Two UMBC women’s lacrosse players – seniors Kara Dorr (Bel Air,
Dorr, a midfielder, led the Retrievers in 2009 with 40 goals, 50 points and 34 draw controls – all career highs – and she ranked second on the team with 19 caused turnovers and fourth with 10 assists and 26 ground balls. The team co-captain finished her career with 100 goals, 123 points, 99 ground balls and 124 draw controls and earned a number of postseason accolades, including America East Second-Team All-Conference, IWLCA Second-Team All-Region and UMBC’s Outstanding Female Senior Athlete. Dorr was also selected to play in the IWLCA/Under Armour North-South Senior All-Star Game in June.
Dorr graduated with a degree in political science in May. She was a unanimous selection to the America East All-Academic squad and earned CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Second-Team nods, as well.
Lancer, a defender, joined Dorr on the America East All-Academic team. She posted career highs with 25 ground balls, 11 draw controls and 13 caused turnovers in 2009. She also scored twice and added two assists for four points, also personal bests. Lancer graduated from UMBC in May with a degree in psychology.
The IWLCA recognized 442 student-athletes from 162 schools with inclusion on the Academic Honor Roll. Players must have achieved at least junior standing academically and have a minimum GPA of 3.5 or fall in the top 10 percent of their squad.
