Kara Dorr Garners Pair of Honors from IWLCA

6/5/2009

Kara Dorr is the third Retriever in four years to earn All-Region honors.

BALTIMOREUMBC senior midfielder Kara Dorr (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) has been honored by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) with selections to the Mid-Atlantic All-Region Second Team and the Under Armour North-South Senior All-Star Game, the organization announced this week.

Dorr is one of 128 Division I student-athletes who were honored with inclusion on one of the eight All-Region teams, with each of the four regions – the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South and West/Midwest – naming a first and second team.

In addition, Dorr is one of 43 seniors chosen to participate in the annual IWLCA/Under Armour North-South Senior All-Star Game, which will take place on Saturday, June 13, at the United Sports Training Center in Downington, Pa., as part of the Champions’ Cup tournament. Dorr will play for the South squad.

A 2009 America East All-Conference Second Team honoree, Dorr led the Retrievers with 40 goals, 50 points and 34 draw controls – all career highs – and she ranked second on the team with 19 caused turnovers and fourth with 10 assists and 26 ground balls. The team co-captain ranked fifth in the America East in goals per game (2.5) and ninth in points per game (3.12), and she scored at least two points in 10 straight games to end the season. She finished her career with 100 goals, 123 points, 99 ground balls and 124 draw controls and was named UMBC’s Outstanding Female Senior Athlete at the athletic department’s varsity awards banquet last month.

Dorr also excelled in the classroom, as she was a unanimous selection to the America East All-Academic squad and earned CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Second Team nods, as well.

Dorr is the Retrievers’ third All-Region honoree in the last four years, joining former teammates Kelly Fiorani (2006) and Ali Levendusky (2008). Dorr is also the fourth Retriever to be chosen for the North-South game in that period, joining Fiorani, Levendusky and Julie Libertini (2006).
