UMBC Women's Lacrosse Holds on for 11-10 Win at American Wednesday Afternoon

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The UMBC women’s lacrosse team stormed out to a 10-5 lead and held on for a 11-10, non-conference win at American on Wednesday afternoon. Freshman Emily Coady (Westminster, Md./Westminster) scored three goals, including the game-winning goal with 4:23 left in the second half. With the win, the Retrievers improve to 7-7 on the season, while the Eagles dropped to 2-11.
With the score tied at 4 late in the first half, UMBC pulled off three straight goals in final 5:54 with sophomore Ashley Stodter (Silver Spring, Md./Good Counsel), junior Amanda Gable (Mount Airy, Md./Glenelg) and Coady all finding the net.
After AU opened the scoring the second half 24:02, senior Ashley Lancer (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright), Stodter and Coady scored back-to-back-to-back to extend the lead to 10-5. The Eagles stormed back with three straight goals, but Coady’s goal with 4:23 was enough to see the Retrievers through to victory.
UMBC junior goalie Kate Quick (Phoenix, Md./Maryvale Prep) made four saves in net, while Frankie Solomon and Kaska Komosinski combined for nine saves for AU.
The Retrievers return to America East play when they travel to Albany on Saturday at 4 p.m.
