Kate Quick Earns Second America East Women’s Lacrosse Defender of the Week Honor

Kate Quick made 22 saves and allowed just 15 goals last week.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.UMBC junior goalie Kate Quick (Phoenix, Md./Maryvale Prep) was named America East Women’s Lacrosse Defender of the Week for the week ending April 5, the conference announced Monday. The award is Quick’s second of the season, as she also earned the honor for Week 3.

 

Quick recorded 22 saves for a .595 save percentage in two games last week, allowing just 15 goals for a 7.50 GAA. She also picked up a team-high seven ground balls and caused three turnovers.

 

In UMBC’s victory over Binghamton, Quick made nine saves and surrendered just four goals in 60 minutes, never allowing back-to-back tallies. Then against No. 19 New Hampshire, she recorded 13 saves and allowed just two second-half goals while the Retrievers attempted a comeback.

 

Quick boasts a .496 save percentage and a 10.37 GAA on the season, ranking second and fourth in the America East, respectively. Quick also ranks third in the conference with 8.85 saves per game. In four league games, she has posted a 9.25 GAA and a .507 save percentage with 9.50 saves per game.

 

Quick is the third Retriever to earn Defender of the Week honors this season. In addition to her nod in Week 3, sophomore Meagan Linkous picked up the award in Week 1.

 

The Retrievers return to action on Wednesday, April 8, when they take on regional rival American at 4 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
