Abbey Swift has scored nine goals in her last two games against Binghamton.

BALTIMORE—Senior attack Abbey Swift (Baltimore, Md./Towson) scored a career-high five goals to lead the UMBC women’s lacrosse team (6-6, 2-1 AEC) past America East rival Binghamton (2-8, 0-2 AEC) by a score of 16-4 Wednesday afternoon at UMBC Stadium.

The Retrievers scored the first three goals of the game less than two minutes apart before Binghamton midfielder Riley Newman put the Bearcats on the board at the 23:01 mark. Leading 5-2, UMBC rattled off four straight goals to end the first half and head into the locker rooms with a 9-2 advantage.

Swift and senior midfielder Kara Dorr (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) each scored three times in the first period.

Binghamton attack Lis Zuern scored the first goal of the second stanza just 1:29 in, but the Retrievers tallied five straight and seven of the final eight goals of the game for the 16-4 final. UMBC never allowed back-to-back goals in the contest.

Swift’s previous career highs of four goals and five points were set last season against the same Bearcats. She also added six caused turnovers and four ground balls in the game.

Dorr finished with five points on three goals and two assists, while junior midfielder Amanda Gable (Mount Air, Md./Glenelg) set a new career high with four points on three goals and a helper. Sophomore midfielder Amanda Pappas (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) also tallied four points on a goal and a career-best three assists.

UMBC junior goalie Kate Quick (Phoenix, Md./Maryvale Prep) made nine saves in the net, while Binghamton keepers Emily Miller and Lauren Scott combined to stop six shots.

The Retrievers out-shot the Bearcats, 29-20, and held a 26-14 edge on ground balls.

The Retrievers return to action on Saturday when they host America East rival and 19th-ranked New Hampshire at 12 p.m. at UMBC Stadium.
