3/13/2009

  • Box Score

Ashley Stodter tied her career high with three goals.

BALTIMOREUMBC sophomore midfielder Ashley Stodter (Silver Spring, Md./Good Counsel) tied her career high with three goals, but Old Dominion (3-0) scored five unanswered goals midway through the second half to defeat the UMBC women’s lacrosse team (3-4) by a score of 16-10 Friday afternoon at UMBC Stadium.

The Retrievers held a 6-3 lead with 16:13 remaining in the first half, but four straight Old Dominion goals gave the Lady Monarchs a 7-6 halftime advantage.

UMBC junior attack Rachel Pincus (New Market, Md./Linganore) converted a feed from senior midfielder Kara Dorr (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) just 26 seconds into the second period to tie the score at 7-7.

Old Dominion took a 9-7 lead 2:37 later, but the Retrievers again tied it with 24:27 remaining on back-to-back goals by Stodter and Dorr.

With the score knotted at 9-9, the Lady Monarchs tallied five straight to take control of the game, and only a free-position goal by UMBC freshman midfielder Bria Phillips (Davidsonville, Md./Coronado (Calif.)) interrupted ODU’s run, as the visitors scored twice more to end the game.

Phillips (2g, 1a) and Dorr (1g, 2a) each finished with three points.

Old Dominion midfielder Kelly Kimener led all scorers with seven points on four goals and three assists. Jessica Noone and Lisa Bernadini also notched hat tricks for the Lady Monarchs.

UMBC junior goalie Kate Quick (Phoenix, Md./Maryvale Prep) finished with nine saves in the game, while ODU keeper Sarah Geary stopped 10 shots.

The Retrievers return to action on Tuesday, March 17, when they host Iona at 4 p.m.
