BALTIMORE—Two UMBC women’s lacrosse players – juniors Kara Dorr (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) and Ashley Lancer (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) – were selected to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division-I Academic Honor Roll, the organization announced last week. It is the first such honor for both players. A team co-captain, Dorr missed most of the 2008 season with a knee injury but still managed to score seven goals and dish out three assists in seven games. For her career, the midfielder has scored 60 goals and tallied 13 assists for 73 points. The political science major has posted a 3.72 grade-point average in her first three years at UMBC. Lancer, also a team co-captain, started all 16 games in 2008 and scored one goal. The defender has started 31 of 33 games over the last two seasons. The psychology major boasts a 3.68 cumulative GPA. The IWLCA honored 159 Division-I student-athletes from 57 schools with inclusion on the Academic Honor Roll. Players must have achieved at least junior year status and have a minimum GPA of 3.2.
