4/21/2002

Baltimore, MD-On a soggy day at UMBC Stadium, the UMBC women's lacrosse team finished the regular season undefeated in the Northeast Conference with a 16-8 win over Wagner. With the victory, the Retrievers clinched the first seed in next weekend's NEC tournament.UMBC (10-4, 7-0 NEC) took a 5-3 halftime lead thanks to a first half hat trick by senior midfielder Jamie Gerhart, who, along with her five fellow classmates, was playing her last regular season game in a Retriever uniform. Wagner (11-5, 4-3 NEC) managed to stay close early in the second half as junior attacker Kelly McVeigh's goal at 34:43 pulled the Seahawks to within one at 5-4. That was the closest they would get, however, as the Retrievers reeled off eight straight goals, including three by junior midfielder Stephanie Allen, to take a commanding 13-4 lead. On the day, Gerhart finished with five goals and two assists while Allen added four goals. Senior attacker Shannon Gallup notched two goals and two assists and fellow senior Beth Milani also scored two goals for UMBC.
