WOMEN'S LAX COASTS IN 15-4 WIN AT QUINNIPIAC

Quinnipiac women's lacrosse suffered a 15-4 loss to NEC leader UMBC (5-4) this afternoon. The first loss on the home field brings the QU women to a record of 7-4. Only 0:29 into the game UMBC Senior Jamie Gerhart scored off a pass from Loree Miller. Quinnipiac answered back right away though with an unassisted goal from Senior Marta Waldron, her first of two goals for the afternoon. UMBC soon distanced themselves from Quinnipiac with four consecutive goals in less than four minutes. At 15:19 Gerhart finds the back of the net again on an assist from Senior Beth Milani. Only two minutes later at 13:25 Sophomore Jen Dragoni scores on a pass from Junior Lauren Traber. Miller and Senior Shannon Gallup score within a minute of one another at 12:23 and 11:43, giving UMBC a 5-1 lead. Quinnipiac's Marta Waldron wouldn't let them pull away and scored at 10:15 on a pass from Kristin Smallman. The Retrievers were just too hot, scoring another 3 goals before the end of the half. At 9:43 Gallup scores her second consecutive goal unassisted, while Dragoni adds another notch to the score at 8:22. With only 0:35 remaining in the half, UMBC Milani sends Traber a pass that just couldn't miss, giving UMBC a lead of 8-2 into the half. Quinnipiac came back strong into the second half scoring a quick goal at 28:15 by Sophomore Annie Paquette. UMBC Traber didn't lose her fire during half-time and scores again at 26:48. Retrievers freshman Stephanie Crouch scores two goals only a few minutes later at 25:16 and 23:45, her first assisted by Dragoni. Down 11-3, Senior Jesse Rowley scored Quinnipiac's final goal with 17:58 left in the game. UMBC sealed their win with four more goals by four different players. The first was at 17:04 by Sophomore Lauren Hess and assisted by Senior Ashley Staines. Scoring her third and final goal of the game at 15:19 was Dragoni. Freshman Anna Jacobs adds her name to list with a goal at 8:45 on a pass from Staines. UMBC finalizes the game at 5:37 with Milani's single goal of the day. Quinnipiac's Megan Matthews comes up with 16 saves while UMBC goalie Courtney Stringer saves 13.
