Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Vermont, 20-10

    Burlington, Vt.-The UMBC women’s lacrosse team (7-9, 2-3 America East) could not overcome a 15-3 first-half deficit as the Retrievers fell to America East rival Vermont (5-11, 2-3 America East) by a score of 20-10 Saturday afternoon.

     

    The Catamounts scored six of the first seven goals of the game and eight straight in the middle of the first half to take a commanding lead. Kristen Millar scored four times in the first period for Vermont, while Jennifer Maher and Becky Kenison each had hat tricks by half time.

     

    The Retrievers scored six of the first eight goals of the second half to pull the score to 17-9 with 10:56 remaining. Senior attack Jen Kasper scored twice during that stretch. But the Catamounts scored three of the final four goals of the game to seal the 20-10 victory.

     

    Junior attack Ali Levendusky led the Retrievers with four points on two goals and two assists. Kasper and sophomore midfielder Kara Dorr also each scored twice for UMBC.

     

    Millar led all scorers with six points with a game-high five goals and an assist. Kenison, Maher and Emilie Clark also scored four goals apiece for Vermont.

     

    UMBC freshman goalie Kate Quick played 42:53 between the pipes and allowed 12 goals while making four saves. Sophomore Susie Sweeney played the other 17:07 in the net and allowed eight Vermont goals while stopping one shot.

     

    Vermont goalie Meaghan Hanley played all 60 minutes and recorded 11 saves.

     

    The Catamounts out-shot the Retrievers, 27-23, and held a 13-12 advantage on ground balls. The teams each won 16 draw controls.

     

    The Retrievers return to action on Saturday, April 28, when they head to Albany, N.Y., to take on America East rival Albany in the regular season finale.
