WOMEN'S LACROSSE EARNS FIRST VICTORY OF THE SEASON IN EASY FASHION, 22-2, OVER CENTRAL CONNECTICUT

Baltimore, MD-The UMBC women's lacrosse team broke out of their scoring slump today with a 22-2 thumping of Northeast Conference foe Central Connecticut State at UMBC Stadium. The victory was the first of the season for the Retrievers.UMBC (1-3, 1-0 NEC) came out firing in the early going, scoring a goal just 17 seconds in and adding seven more before Central Connecticut would dent the scoreboard almost 20 minutes into the game. Senior Jamie Gerhart notched three tallies in the first half as the Retrievers took a commanding 12-1 lead into the break.In the second half, UMBC remained hot as Gerhart scored back-to-back goals at 25:45 and 17:31 to increase the Retriever advantage to 15-1. CCSU could not answer the Retriever charge as UMBC cruised to their third straight win over the Blue Devils.Overall, Gerhart led UMBC with six goals while three of her teammates, freshman Stephanie Crouch, sophomore Jen Dragoni and junior Lauren Traber, all netted three goals apiece. Junior goalkeeper Coutrney Stringer stopped four shots and allowed two goals for the Retrievers and CCSU's keeper, Stephanie Payne had 18 saves while allowing 22 goals.
