Denver Defeats Women's Lacrosse

    Baltimore, Md.—Senior midfielder Kristie Leggio scored all of her five goals in the second half as visiting Denver improved to 7-1 with a 15-2 win over UMBC. It was the seventh consecutive win for the 15th-ranked Pioneers and UMBC’s (3-5) third consecutive setback.

     

    Denver’s Megan Carver put the visitors ahead, 1-0 just 1:02 into the contest and the Pioneers built a 6-0 lead before UMBC freshman Amanda Gable scored on a free position shot with 6:14 to play in the half. Denver led, 6-1 at intermission and Leggio scored the first three goals of the second half to put the game well in control.

     

    Leggio added three assists, while Carver posted three goals and one assist.

     

    Gable and freshman Kelly Burgoyne each scored goals for the Retrievers. UMBC opens America East Conference play vs. New Hampshire on Saturday.
