Baltimore, Md.—Junior Ali Levendusky scored a game-high four goals as host UMBC defeated Bucknell, 13-5 in a non-conference women’s lacrosse game played at chilly UMBC Stadium.

The Retrievers improved to 2-1 on the season, while Bucknell lost its season opener.

UMBC jumped out to a 6-0 advantage just 5:35 into the game.  Freshman Amanda Gable scored 34 seconds into the contest and classmate Megan Cook made it 2-0 just 17 seconds later. Levendusky would score three of UMBC’s next four goals, with senior Kelly Fahey producing the other.

Bucknell’s Chelsea Peters finally got the Bison on the board at the 10:06 mark of the half and Bucknell added a late goal to trim their deficit to 6-2 at intermission.  But UMBC opened the second half on a 4-0 run to put the game out of reach. Cook scored her second goal of the game on a free position shot just 1:03 into the half and Fahey sandwiched a pair of scores around a Kelly Burgoyne successful free position shot to put UMBC comfortably ahead, 10-2 with 19 minutes remaining.

Fahey posted three goals,  Cook added two scores and an assist and Burgoyne scored twice for the victors.  Bonnie Buechel led Bucknell with three goals on a game-high seven shots.  Bison netminder Katie Hartsock made six saves while going the distance, while a pair of UMBC goalkeepers each played one half. Starter Susie Sweeney made seven first half saves, while freshman Kate Quick had five in the final 30 minutes.
