Women's Lacrosse Falls to Sixth-Ranked Maryland, 23-8

    Baltimore, Md.—Junior Dana Dobbie scored six goals and controlled ten draws as sixth-ranked Maryland opened their season with a 23-8 win over host UMBC (1-1) in frigid conditions at UMBC Stadium.

     

    UMBC was led by sophomore midfielder Kara Dorr who scored three goals and posted UMBC’s lone assist.

     

    The Terrapins sprinted out to a 7-0 by the 12:22 mark of the first half before UMBC’s Ali Levendusky got the Retrievers on the board just over a minute later.  Maryland led, 15-3 at halftime and added the first three goals of the second half to coast to the victory.

     

    Maryland’s Katie Princiotti led all scorers with three goals and six assists, while Amanda Spinnenweber added four goals and two assists. UMBC freshman Amanda Gable was UMBC’s other multiple-point scorer with a pair of goals.

     

    Both UMBC goalkeepers saw action—Susie Sweeney made seven saves and allowed 15 first half goals, while Kate Quick made six saves and allowed eight second half scores. Maryland’s Allie Buote played 39:47 for the visitors and made ten saves, allowing four goals.

     

    UMBC returns to action when they host Bucknell on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
