UMBC WOMEN'S LACROSSE LOSES OPENER TO LOYOLA, 18-6

Baltimore, MD-Sixth-ranked Loyola exploded for 13 first half goals and would cruise to an 18-6 win over UMBC on a chilly night at UMBC Stadium. Loyola (1-0) took a commanding 9-1 lead with 19:16 remaining in the opening stanza following senior attacker Stacey Morlang's fourth goal. The Greyhounds would hold UMBC (0-1) to three scores in the first half as they took a commanding 13-3 lead at the break.The Greyhounds would net two more quick scores to open the second half before nailing down the 18-6 victory in the season opener for both teams. Morlang led Loyola with four goals while senior midfielder Suzanne Eyler and sophomore attacker Rachel Shuck chipped in three goals and one assist each.The Retrievers' lone bright spot was senior midfielder Jamie Gerhart, who scored two goals and added three assists. Loyola goalie Tricia Dabrowski stopped 17 shots while UMBC keeper Courtney Stringer made seven saves.
