FIORANI, LIBERTINI SELECTED TO STX SENIOR ALL-STAR GAME SOUTH SQUAD
Julie Libertini anchored the Retrievers' defense for four years.
Kelly Fiorani ranks in the top 10 all-time at UMBC in all three scoring categories.
Recently named an Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Mid-Atlantic All-Regional Second Team member, Fiorani finished second on the team with 39 goals and 53 points and third with 14 assists. She also led the team with 45 ground balls, 39 draw controls and 25 caused turnovers en route to 2006 America East All-Conference First Team and All-Championship Team honors and the UMBC Outstanding Senior Athlete award. Fiorani ends her career ranked third all-time in goals (140) and points (189) and seventh in assists (49), and she is UMBC second all-time leading scorer at the Division-I level.
Libertini has anchored the Retrievers’ defense for the last four years, as she has started all but four games since her freshman season. She earned first-team all-conference honors in 2006 – the first all-conference recognition of her career – with 36 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers, surpassing her three-year output in both categories. In addition, after scoring just three points on a goal and two assists in her first three seasons, Libertini doubled that total with two goals and a helper this year. She also was named to the America East All-Championship Team in 2006.
In her first season at the helm, Connor was named America East Coach of the Year after leading the Retrievers to their first-ever America East regular season championship and top seed in the conference tournament with a 5-1 league record and 10-8 overall mark. It was UMBC’s first winning season since 2003. Connor also coached the South squad in the 2005 North/South Senior All-Star Game.
