RETRIEVERS FALL TO OHIO, 10-6, IN NON-CONFERENCE WOMEN’S LACROSSE ACTION

    Athens, Ohio-The UMBC women’s lacrosse team held a 4-1 lead more than halfway through the first half, but Ohio scored the final five goals of the period and held on to defeat the Retrievers, 10-6, Wednesday afternoon at Peggy Pruitt Field. UMBC falls to 8-7 on the season, while the Bobcats improve to 4-10.

     

    Sophomore attack Ali Levendusky (Baldwin, Md./John Carroll) got the Retrievers on the board first with an unassisted goal just 1:16 into the game. Ohio’s Kiersten McLouth tied the score 1:29 later before UMBC scored the next three for a 4-1 advantage with 10:04 to play in the first half.

     

    But the Bobcats went on a 5-0 scoring run to end the period with a 6-4 lead, and the Retrievers could not recover in the second half.

     

    Freshman midfielder Kara Dorr (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) pulled UMBC to within one with an unassisted goal 1:47 into the second half, but Ohio scored four of the final five goals of the game for the 10-6 victory.

     

    Levendusky scored twice, while junior midfielder Kelly Fahey (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) tallied two points on a goal and an assist. Dorr and senior midfielders Ede Carpenter (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville/CCBC-Catonsville) and Kelly Fiorani (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) also scored for the Retrievers.

     

    Fiorani’s goal extended her scoring streak to 15 games, while Levendusky has posted six straight multi-goal performances.

     

    McLouth led all scorers with four goals, while Ohio’s Shannon Hadaway also tallied four points on three goals and an assist.

     

    Freshman goalie Susie Sweeney (Madison, N.J./Madison) recorded six saves, while Ohio’s Jen Heup stopped four shots.

     

    The Bobcats out-shot the Retrievers, 22-15, held a 19-12 advantage on ground balls and won the draw control battle, 13-5.

     

    The Retrievers return to action on Sunday when they travel to Stony Brook, N.Y., to take on the America East rival Seawolves at 1 p.m.
