UMBC HIRES NOTRE DAME STANDOUT TINA FEDARCYK AS ASSISTANT WOMEN’S LACROSSE COACH

Tina Fedarcyk was hired as assistant women's lacrosse coach at UMBC.

Baltimore, Md.-UMBC head women’s lacrosse coach Courtney Martinez Connor announced today the hiring of Tina Fedarcyk as assistant coach. Fedarcyk joins the Retrievers after an outstanding four-year playing career at Notre Dame and three seasons as head coach at a San Diego-area high school.

A four-year starter on defense for the Fighting Irish, Fedarcyk was team captain in both her junior and senior years and was named team MVP as a sophomore. Fedarcyk was a two-time All-BIG EAST selection and an IWLCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region Second Team pick in 2002. She also was an IWLCA Academic All-American her final two years at Notre Dame.

Fedarcyk holds the Notre Dame school record in caused turnovers in her career (107) and ranks second all-time in ground balls (177) and draw controls (96). In 63 games, she scored 10 goals with six assists.

As a senior, Fedarcyk anchored a defense that was ranked seventh in the nation with a 7.49 goals-against average, which was more than two goals per game lower than the previous school record. The Irish advance to the NCAA Tournament her senior year, defeating 12th-ranked Ohio State in the first round before falling to No. 1 Princeton in the second round.

Fedarcyk participated in the National Tournament from 2000-02 and earned an invitation to the National Team Tryout in 2002.

After graduating from Notre Dame in 2002 with a Bachelor’s degree in biological science, Fedarcyk was the varsity girls’ lacrosse head coach at Mt. Carmel High School in San Diego, where she guided her team to the second round of the CIF playoffs in her first year, a Mt. Carmel first.

Fedarcyk has also been a lacrosse camp counselor and coach for the past five summers, working at camps in Maryland, Indiana, California, Michigan and Colorado.

“I think Tina will be a great addition to our program,” Martinez Connor said. “She was an integral part in taking Notre Dame to a national ranking and the NCAA tournament. She has tremendous poise and will be a spark to our up-and-coming program.”

A native of Millersville, Md., and a graduate of St. Mary’s High School, Fedarcyk joins a UMBC staff which also includes assistant coach Tara Singleton, a defensive standout at Loyola from 2001-04.
