ALBANY SCORES WITH 4 SECONDS TO PLAY TO NIP WOMEN'S LACROSSE, 13-12

    Albany, NY—Krissy Rajczak’s goal with 4 seconds left broke a 12-all tie and gave the host Great Danes (4-10, 2-1 America East) a 13-12 victory over UMBC (2-8, 0-3 AE).

     

    The Retrievers led, 7-4, at halftime, but Albany’s Nikki Donohue capped a 3-0 run which tied the game at 9-all at the midpoint of the half. UMBC’s Kate Worthington, Jocena Venditti, and Kelly Fiorani scored go-ahead goals for the Retriever, but the Great Danes posted the equalizer each time. Fiorani scored on a free position shot with 7:10 to play to give UMBC a 12-11 lead, but Albany’s Sarah Spillett scored just 20 seconds later to tie the game, setting the stage for Rajczak’s game-winner in the waning moments.

     

    UMBC outshot Albany, 40-22, but UA netminder Jen Daly made 15 saves. Retriever goalkeeper Kristina Raab only managed 4 stops, including just 1 in the second half.

     

    Retriever leading scorer Anna Jacobs posted a strong game, tallying 4 goals and adding 2 assists. Fiorani added 2 goals and 2 helpers and Venditti posted 2 goals and 1 assist. UMBC had 9 assists on their 12 goals, while Albany managed only 1 helper on their 13 scores.
