Baltimore, MD—Junior attacker Kate Worthington (Annapolis, MD/Old Mill) scored four goals as host UMBC (1-4) earned its first win of the year, a hard-fought 14-11 triumph over Oregon (2-5) at UMBC Soccer Stadium.

Retriever freshman Ali Levendusky (Baldwin, Md./John Carroll) put UMBC ahead for good at 2-1 at the 5:38 mark of the first half. UMBC built a 4-1 lead, but the Ducks, a first-year varsity program, would not go away, and trimmed the UMBC to 9-7 at intermission.

Worthington, who scored UMBC’s ninth goal with 3:31 remaining in the first half, scored UMBC’s first three goals of the second half, each time giving the Retrievers a three-goal cushion. Her fourth goal put the Retrievers ahead, 12-9 with 11:22 remaining, then Levendusky scored back-to-back unassisted goals to give her team a 14-9 lead with five minutes to play.

Oregon’s Jana Bradley (Encinitas, Calif.) led all scorers with 4 goals and 1 assist, and Jen May (Davidsonville, Md./South River) added 3 goals.
