WOMEN'S LACROSSE FALLS AT MT. ST. MARY'S, 12-10
4/23/2004
Casey Paris scored back-to-back goals in the second half help Mount St. Mary's end a nine-game losing streak against UMBC with a 12-10 win in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Friday.
Paris, who posted three markers on the day, tied the contest at 5 at the
34:01 mark and then gave the Mount (12-3) the lead to stay after finding
the twine 1 minute, 48 seconds later. Kelly Fiorani led the Retrievers (4-9) with three goals and Jen Dragoni posted two markers and an assist in the loss.
Despite trailing 5-4 at halftime, the Mount scored five straight goals
to start the second stanza to take a 9-5 advantage.
Kate Worthington and Dragoni cut the margin to 9-7 with 14:36 remaining
in the contest, but Keene ended the Retrievers run with a marker at
11:56.
The game was then delayed for over an hour due to heavy rain and
lightening. When play ressumed Keene found the twine again at the 7:37
mark for a 10-7 advantage. Dragoni and LaMotte traded markers before Lauren Hess and Fiorani each scored in the final two minutes, but could get no closer with the
contest ending 12-10.
UMBC grabbed the early advantage thanks to a pair of markers from Fiorani and Jenny Kasper, and went into the intermission ahead, 5-4.
