VIRGINIA DEFEATS UMBC WOMEN'S LACROSSE, 19-5

            The Cavalier women's lacrosse team's defense held the UMBC Retrievers (0-6) to one 8-meter attempt on the game and Virginia (6-2) had three players record hat tricks and 11 players score goals as the Hoos defeated UMBC 19-5 tonight in Charlottesville. 

            The Cavaliers jumped on the board early as Nikki Lieb won the opening draw and Caitlin Banks took from the top of the fan, scoring just 46 seconds into the game. Virginia had a 4-0 lead 3:56 into the game before Jen Dragoni put the Retrievers on the board off an assist from Lauren Hess after Kelly Fahey won the draw for UMBC. The Cavaliers led 13-2 at halftime.


           UMBC scored the first two goals of the second half as Hess fed Kate Worthington 1:55 into the stanza and then Jennifer Kasper assisted Jen Dragoni two minutes later, allowing Dragoni to notch a hat trick and pulling the Retrievers to 12-4.
           
            Virginia went up 18-4 before UMBC's Worthington stopped the 5-0 run with a goal off an assist from Fahey.
