WOMEN'S LACROSSE FALLS TO LOYOLA, 15-8

    Baltimore, MDLoyola College (2-0) scored the first six goals of the second half to break open a tight game and defeat UMBC (0-3), 15-8, at UMBC Stadium.

     

    UMBC shocked the Greyhounds by opening up with leads of 2-0 and 4-2 in the first half, the latter with 18:06 remaining in the first half. But Loyola went on a 6-0 run to take an 8-4 advantage with 8:40 to play. Retriever junior Lauren Hess (C. Milton Wright/Bel Air, MD) scored a pair of goals six seconds apart to trim the deficit to 8-6 with 52 seconds to play in the half, but Loyola’s Jaclyn Borrone tallied with no time remaining on the clock to give the Hounds a 9-6 halftime edge.

     

    Senior Rachel Shuck, who finished the game with a goal and five assists,  sparked Loyola’s second half surge as she assisted on three of the first four goals of the half. Loyola built a 15-6 lead and held UMBC scoreless for the first 27:31 of the second half, until a pair of late Retriever goals.

     

    Talia Shacklock and Sydney Green each scored three goals for Loyola, while Borrone and Kourtney Porcella added 2 each. Jen Dragoni led UMBC with 3 goals and 1 assist, while Hess added 2 goals and 1 assist, and freshman Kelly Fahey (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) contributed a goal and two helpers.
