Alex Mundy joined the UMBC women’s lacrosse coaching staff as an assistant coach in September of 2012.
“We are very excited to have Alex on our staff,” Appelt said. “She is a competitor and brings great passion to the game. She was a standout player at Vanderbilt and has a great deal of knowledge of the defensive system that we want to run. Tony and I know that Alex will be a great addition to the staff and we are excited to get started.”
Mundy, a former two-time All-American Second Team honoree, played four seasons with the Vanderbilt women’s lacrosse program. During her time with the Commodores, Mundy earned First Team All-Conference and First Team Regional All-American honors, while helping VU to an Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Top-15 National Ranking all four seasons and appeared in four straight National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Tournaments.
Mundy graduated in 2010 from Vanderbilt with a Bachelor of Science degree in economics and political science, as well as a minor in managerial studies with a concentration in corporate strategy.
Following her playing career and a brief stint outside of athletics, Mundy returned to the field, serving as an assistant coach at Yale for the past year. While with the Bulldogs, Mundy took on responsibilities such as team defensive coordinator, community service coordinator, alumni communications coordinator, equipment coordinator and co-recruiting coordinator.
“I could not be more excited to be joining the UMBC lacrosse family,” said Mundy. “The enthusiasm that Tony and Amy share about the team and the program’s future is contagious and to be appointed to a position as a part of their coaching staff is an enormous honor. I am so happy and fortunate to be able to call UMBC my new home.”
