Former all-conference goalkeeper Kate Quick has joined the UMBC women’s lacrosse staff as a volunteer assistant coach.

“We are thrilled to welcome back Kate, one of the best goalies to have stepped on campus here at UMBC,” head coach Kelly Berger said. “Kate’s passion for UMBC and her ability to relate to our players make her a perfect addition to our staff.”

Quick, a two-time team captain, made 50 career starts for the Retrievers from 2007-10 and posted a 10.62 goals-against average and a .451 save percentage in more than 2,900 career minutes. She ranks fourth all-time at UMBC with 426 saves, and she also recorded 105 ground balls and 48 caused turnovers.

As a junior in 2009, Quick led the America East with a .483 save percentage and ranked second with 8.41 saves per game en route to First-Team All-Conference and team co-MVP honors. In addition, the Phoenix, Md., native anchored the 11th-ranked defense in the nation in 2010, leading the Retrievers to their first-ever America East title game.

A two-time America East All-Academic Team selection, Quick graduated in May 2010 with a degree in psychology.
