Tony Giro joins the Retrievers as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2009 season.

Giro has an extensive coaching background at the high school level in the sports of lacrosse, basketball, football and baseball. He was part of the coaching staff that led the Mt. Hebron girls’ lacrosse team to four straight Maryland State Championships and a No. 1 national ranking from 2003-06, and he served as the team’s defensive coordinator for two of the four seasons.

In addition, Giro is the head coach of the Maryland and D.C. Lacrosse Club 2010 Black Team.

Giro was also a coach on the Archbishop Spalding baseball team that produced the program’s first winning record in six years, and he was the head coach of Mt. Hebron’s junior varsity basketball team that won three county championships and produced an undefeated season in 2005-06.

Giro was a four-year baseball player at High Point University, where he was recognized as a Scholar-Athlete. He earned his bachelor’s degree from High Point in elementary education. Giro currently serves as an instructional aid for the special education department at Mt. Hebron High School.
