Tara Singleton joined the Retrievers in August 2005 after five years at perennial powerhouse Loyola College, four as a player and the last as an undergraduate assistant coach.

As a member of the Loyola defense, Singleton earned Second-Team All-America honors and was a Tewaaraton Trophy nominee. She led the Greyhounds to four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, the 2001 and 2003 Final Fours and the Colonial Athletic Association Championship in 2002. She was also named both team captain and team MVP as a senior in 2004.

A two-year starter, Singleton was part of a defensive unit that was ranked No. 1 in the country in 2003 and finished ninth in 2004. She recorded 89 caused turnovers and 83 ground balls throughout her career, and she ranked among the nation’s leaders in caused turnovers in 2004.

Singleton has been a member of the U.S. National Team since 2003 and is a World Cup team candidate. She has served as a counselor at Loyola Lacrosse Camps for the past five summers, and she served as head coach of the North Baltimore County Lacrosse Team for two summers.

“I’m extremely excited to have Tara on staff,” UMBC head coach Courtney Connor said. “She has extensive knowledge on the field as a player and as a volunteer assistant coach at Loyola, and having played internationally with the U.S. team, she can bring that aspect of the game, as well.”

A Baltimore native and Mercy High School alumna, Singleton graduated from Loyola in 2005 with a degree in elementary education and a minor in special education.
