BALTIMORE—UMBC head women’s lacrosse coach Kelly Berger today announced the Retrievers’ 2010 schedule, which is highlighted by three games against teams that advanced to the 2009 NCAA Tournament.

BALTIMORE—UMBC head women’s lacrosse coach Kelly Berger today announced that Tony Giro, who spent last season as a volunteer on the Retrievers’ staff, has been named assistant coach and defensive coordinator.

BALTIMORE—UMBC senior midfielder Kara Dorr has been honored by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) with selections to the Mid-Atlantic All-Region Second Team and the Under Armour North-South Senior All-Star Game, the organization announced this week.

BALTIMORE—UMBC senior midfielder Kara Dorr (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) was selected to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District II Women’s At-Large Second Team, the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced last week.

BALTIMORE—Director of Athletics Dr. Charles Brown today announced that Kelly Berger has been promoted to head women’s lacrosse coach at UMBC, replacing Courtney Connor, whose contract has not been renewed. Connor coached the Retrievers for the last four seasons; Berger spent the last two as an assistant at UMBC.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Six Retrievers earned America East all-conference honors for women’s lacrosse, the league announced Wednesday afternoon. Awards were decided by a vote of conference head coaches. All six Retrievers are first-time selections.

BOSTON—Senior attack Abbey Swift scored a career-high seven points and senior midfielder Kara Dorr tallied three goals, including the 100th of her career, but the UMBC women’s lacrosse team (9-8, 3-3 AEC) had its playoff hopes dashed by a 15-10 loss to No. 12 Boston University (13-3, 6-0 AEC) Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field.
