The Retrievers are coming off a 15-16, 10-6 AE season a year ago, making it to their second straight postseason appearance in the WBI Tournament. This year the Retrievers welcome six newcomers to Baltimore, returning nine players from last year’s team.

    Head Coach Phil Stern enters his 16th season at the helm of the UMBC women’s basketball team, looking to continue the success the program has experienced in recent seasons. Last year, the Retrievers finished at 15-16, 10-6 AE, finishing the regular season in third place in the America East. The team won ten of 11 games during the season to help the Retrievers earn their second straight WBI bid, hosting Brown at the RAC in late March.

    UMBC women’s basketball was picked to finish fifth by the coaches of the conference in the America East preseason poll, the conference announced Thursday. Voting was conducted by the conference’s nine head coaches who were not allowed to vote for their own team.

    UMBC women’s basketball head coach Phil Stern has named former UMBC standout Taylor McCarley, ’17 as a graduate assistant coach. McCarley joins Carlee Cassidy Dewey, ’10 and Chelsea Barker Walsh, ’11 as former players for Stern on the coaching staff.
