CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – UMBC freshman forward Sara Tarbert (Delta, Pa./Kennard-Dale) earned her fourth America East Rookie of the Week honors, as announced by the league office on Monday.
Tarbert led the Retrievers in scoring at 18.5 points per game, while adding 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists in all 80 minutes of action in a 1-1 week for the black and gold. UMBC shot 55.0 percent from the floor in the pair of contests, including 53.8 percent shooting from Tarbert.
The rookie helped the Retrievers give Albany all it could handle on Tuesday, knocking down 10-of-11 shots, including a perfect three-for-three from beyond the arc, en route to 23 points in a 56-46 loss to the league front-runner Great Danes. Tarbert registered 14 points, five rebounds and five assists in Sunday's 77-62 victory versus Vermont that snapped an 11-game skid for the Retrievers, extending her double-digit scoring streak to nine games, including three 20-point efforts.
Tarbert ties Michelle Kurowski (2008-09) for the most Rookie of the Week honors for a UMBC freshman.
