CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – UMBC freshman forward Sara Tarbert (Delta, Pa./Kennard-Dale) shot 58.3 percent from the floor last week to lead the Retrievers in scoring and notch UMBC's third consecutive America East Rookie of the Week honor, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Tarbert knocked down 14-of-24 shots from the field and added seven-of-nine from the free throw line to average 18.0 points per game, to go along with 6.0 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 1.0 assists on the week.
The forward hit 10-of-15 shots at Stony Brook on Monday, Jan. 20 to reset her season-best with 26 points, while adding two assists, two steals and one block. The performance was her third 20-point performance. On Saturday, Tarbert added her third consecutive double-digit performance and nearly came away with the double-double, finishing with 10 points and nine rebounds versus Hartford.
The honor marks the third of the season for Tarbert and the fifth America East award received by the Retrievers during the 2013-14 campaign.
