CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—UMBC junior guard Michelle Kurowski(Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) was named America East Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 28, the conference announced Monday.

To start the week, she scored eight points against George Mason, all in the first half, and added four rebounds and four steals. Kurowski then broke out of her early-season slump at this weekend's Iona Thanksgiving Classic, averaging 24.5 points and earning All-Tournament Team honors.
In the first game against Toledo, she scored 24 points on 8-of-14 shooting, including 4-of-5 from long distance, and matched career highs with seven assists, four steals and four 3-pointers. Then in UMBC's 75-55 rout of Brown, she scored 25 points on 9-of-16 shooting, including 3-of-6 from 3-point range, and she added four assists and five rebounds as the Retrievers snapped a three-game losing streak.
With the back-to-back 20-point performances – her first two of the season – Kurowski raised her season scoring average from 8.4 points per game to 13.0 in two contests, and she also raised her season shooting percentage by nearly 100 points.
Kurowski is the first Retriever to be named America East Player of the Week since she earned the honor on Nov. 30, 2009.
