Abby Gordon Named Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at UMBC
BALTIMORE—UMBC head women's basketball coach Phil Stern today announced that Abby Gordon has joined the Retriever staff as an assistant coach.
Gordon has extensive administrative and managerial experience, as she spent the last three years as the equipment manager and travel coordinator for the WNBA's Connecticut Sun, where she was responsible for all team travel, including hotels, flights and buses, as well as maintaining the team equipment budget and ordering, inventory and distribution of all uniforms and apparel. Gordon also assisted the athletes, coaches and staff with day-to-day needs both at home and on the road.
While with the Sun, Gordon worked a number of special events, including the 2009 WNBA All-Star Game and the 2010 WNBA vs. USA Basketball Stars at the Sun game.
Gordon also spent five months as the director of player personnel for VnG Basketball Agency in Indianapolis, where she assisted a professional women's basketball agent with company operations.
While an undergraduate student at the University of Connecticut, Gordon served as a four-year manager for the women's basketball team, including the 2004 national championship squad and the 2007 team that defeated the Retrievers in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. With the Huskies, Gordon participated in on-court pre- and postseason individual player development sessions, assisted the team in practice and aided the office staff.
"Abby possesses all of the qualities we were looking for in this position," Stern said. "Her managerial skills she learned through her years at UConn and at the Connecticut Sun will be a big benefit to our program."
A native of Cheshire, Conn., Gordon graduated from the University of Connecticut in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in exercise science.
