UMBC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL FALLS TO CONFERENCE LEADER MAINE, 60-45

Baltimore, Md. - The UMBC women's basketball team (0-15, 0-6 AE) lost to the America East Conference's last undefeated team in league play as Maine (11-5, 6-0 AE) extended their regular season conference win streak to 22 straight with a 60-45 win over the Retrievers on Saturday night at UMBC RAC Arena.  Retrievers' freshman Courtney Doughman (Ironton, Ohio/South Webster) came off the bench to score a game and career-high 17 points in the loss.

The Retrievers fell behind early allowing the Black Bears to jump ahead, 12-0, before back-to-back treys by Doughman and Maria Brown (Frederick, Md./Frederick) cut the lead to 12-6.  The Black Bears extended their advantage to a game-high 15 points as Missy Traversi came off the bench to score nine points with three treys as the Black Bears held a 32-17 lead with 3:33 to play in the first half. 

The Retrievers cut the lead back to single-digits before intermission, trailing by eight, 34-26, at the break.  The Retrievers shot 58.3 percent from three-point range in the first half going 7-of-12 from behind the arc.

In the second half the Retrievers cut the lead to four with 9:56 left to play as the Black Bears held a 41-37 lead.  The Retrievers, however, would not come any closer as they went cold from three-point land, shooting 2-of-14 in the second half, allowing Maine to build their lead back to 15 by the end of regulation.

The Retrievers were out rebounded 42-21 with Maine grabbing 11 offensive boards.  The Retrievers shot 33.3 percent from the field while the Black Bears were 42.2 percent.

Leading scores for Maine were Heather Ernest with 16 points and Melissa Heon with 15 points.  Doughman's 17 points made her the only Retriever in double-digits.
