Brown Picks Up First Career America East Player of the Week Award

Brown led the Retrievers to a pair of wins last week, averaging a team-high 18.5 points per game to go along with 4.5 rebounds per game while playing all 80 possible minutes. She also made a team-best seven of 19 three-point attempts and was a prefect 6-for-6 from the foul line, and she was named America East Player of the Game in both contests.

Brown then scored a game-high 18 points and added five rebounds and three steals in the Retrievers’ 65-57 victory over Stony Brook on Saturday. She made all six free throws, including four in the final 50 seconds to help seal the win.
A two-time America East Rookie of the Week in 2008-09, Brown takes home the conference’s Player of the Week award for the first time in her career. She is the third Player of the Week recipient from UMBC this season, as classmate Michelle Kurowski (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) has earned the honor twice (Nov. 29, Jan. 17).
Brown is second on the team and eighth in the conference with 13.0 points per game this season, and she leads UMBC with 5.5 rebounds per contest. She also paces the Retrievers with 45 three-pointers on the season, which nearly matches her career total entering the season (49).
