Women’s Basketball Falls to Boston University, 65-39

BOSTON—The UMBC women’s basketball team (9-9, 3-2 AE) dropped a 65-39 decision to America East rival Boston University (8-9, 5-0 AE) Monday afternoon at the Terriers’ Case Gym.
Both teams started out slowly from the floor, combining to make just two of the first 17 shots of the game. But the Terriers heated up midway through the half, making 12 of their last 14 shots of the period and led, 34-20, at halftime.
The Retrievers, who shot 36 percent in the first half, could not find the basket in the second, going more than nine minutes between field goals. By the time senior guard Michele Brokans (
BU center Kerry Cashman scored seven straight points for the Terriers, who did not let up over the final minutes, taking their game-high 26-point lead on the final basket of the game.
Junior guard Michelle Kurowski (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville), who was named America East Player of the Week earlier in the day, continued her torrid scoring pace with a team-high 15 points and earned UMBC’s America East Player of the Game honor for the fifth straight contest.
