Stony Brook forward Kirsten Jeter paced the Seawolves with a game-high 22 points to go along with eight rebounds and four steals.
UMBC led for most of the first half, using a 7-0 run to take a 13-6 lead with 13:47 remaining in the period. But the Seawolves climbed back to tie the score at 23-23 at the 2:22 mark, and the Retrievers led by one, 25-24, at halftime.
Neither team could find the basket for the first seven minutes of the second stanza, as the two sides combined to make just two of the first 15 shots and commit seven turnovers during that stretch. Stony Brook took a game-high 15-point lead, 51-36, on a three-point play by forward Destiny Jacobs with 5:22 remaining before a pair of free throws by Kurowski and a 3-pointer by Brown cut the Retrievers’ deficit to single digits with 3:27 to go. But that was as close as UMBC would get, as Stony Brook guard Misha Horsey responded with a 3-pointer of her own that sealed the victory.
