VESTAL, N.Y.—The UMBC women’s basketball team (10-14, 4-7 AE) dropped a 70-36 decision at America East rival Binghamton (9-15, 5-6 AE) Wednesday evening at the Events Center.

The Bearcats made their first six field goals, jumping out to a 16-4 lead after just five minutes of play. A 3-pointer by UMBC sophomore guard Michelle Kurowski (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) at the 14:55 mark made it 16-7, but the Retrievers were held without a field goal for the next 13:16, as Binghamton used a 19-2 run to break the game open and led, 38-18, at halftime.

Sophomore center Topé Obajolu (Randallstown, Md./Archbishop Carroll) was the only Retriever in double figures with 11 points and was named UMBC’s America East Player of the Game.

Binghamton guard Erica Carter led four Bearcats in double figures with 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc, and earned her team’s Player of the Game honors.

Note: The Retrievers were playing without head coach Phil Stern, who was unable to travel with the team due to an illness.
