JENNIFER BEDNAREK RESIGNS AS WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH

Baltimore, MD - - -UMBC Head Women's Basketball coach Jennifer Bednarek has resigned from her post to accept a position as First Assistant Coach at Syracuse University, it was announced by UMBC Director of Athletics Dr. Charles Brown."I will miss UMBC, my coaching staff, the student-athletes and the campus community, Bednarek said. "I've enjoyed the experience and I'm looking forward to a challenging future at Syracuse. It's an opportunity to compete against the very best women's basketball programs in the country."Bednarek was promoted to Head Coach in May of 1998 after serving as Assistant Coach of the Retrievers during the 1997-98 campaign. She posted a record of 45-65 during her four-year tenure.A full national search will be conducted to fill the position.- - -UMBC - --
