BALTIMORE—UMBC head women’s basketball coach Phil Stern announced today that two players – Shamika Williams and Kim Browning – have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Retrievers in the fall of 2009.
Williams, a 5-8 guard from nearby Catonsville High School, averaged 17.3 points, 7.3 rebounds and 4.5 assists – all tops on her team – during her junior season, when she was named the Baltimore County Player of the Year and earned First Team All-Metro honors from The Sun. She led the Comets to a 23-3 record and the 2008 county title with 27 points in the championship game before falling in the regional finals. Williams is a three-time first-team all-county and two-time first-team all-division honoree, and she has been named team MVP in each of her first three seasons.
“Shamika is a strong guard who has the ability to score off the dribble,” Stern said. “We’re excited that we were able to keep her home.”
Browning, a 6-2 guard/forward from
“Kim is a 6-2 player with guard skills and the ability to make a long-range jumper,” Stern said.
