Billi Godsey Named Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at UMBC

BALTIMORE—UMBC head women’s basketball coach Phil Stern announced today the hiring of Billi Godsey as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. Godsey joins the Retrievers after spending the last two seasons as an assistant at Molloy College in New York.

“I’m extremely excited to have Billi join our basketball family,” Stern said. “She has a reputation as an extremely hard worker and an excellent recruiter, and her knowledge of the region will enhance our recruiting efforts.”

Godsey helped guide Molloy to its first-ever East Coast Conference title and a berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament in 2008. The Lady Lions posted a 34-26 overall record in her two seasons on the bench.

A former guard at Hofstra University, Godsey was a shooting instructor who worked closely with the perimeter players at Molloy.

Godsey brings an administrative background to UMBC, as well, as she also served as associate director of athletics, senior woman administrator and compliance officer at Molloy and previously was an associate commissioner for operations and senior woman administrator for the East Coast Conference, where she worked for two years.

“Joining the UMBC program is a great opportunity for me to continue to pursue my passion for the game of basketball,” Godsey said. “I am very excited about my future with the Retrievers.”

A native of Cheverly, Md., who attended Archbishop Carroll High School, Godsey was a four-year letterwinner at Hofstra, where she played in 79 games and made 28 starts from 1999-2003. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Hofstra in psychology in May 2003 and a master’s degree in psychology from Adelphi University in November 2005.
