Colabella Nabs Second America East Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week Award

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—UMBC freshman forward Meghan Colabella (Upper Montclair, N.J./Montclair) was named America East Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week for the week ending March 2, the conference announced Monday. The award is the second of Colabella’s career.
Colabella scored 12 points in the Retrievers’ lone game on the week, a 71-62 loss to Vermont. She added four rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal and was a perfect 6-for-6 at the foul line, a career best. She has averaged 10.3 ppg and 4.2 rpg in her last four games.
Colabella previously earned Rookie of the Week recognition on Jan. 14, and she is the only Retriever since UMBC joined the America East to receive the award more than once.
Colabella and the Retrievers return to action on Wednesday when they host America East rival Boston University at 7 p.m. UMBC then concludes the season at home against Hartford on Saturday at 7 p.m.
