Amanda Robinson to Return to Women’s Basketball Team Wednesday; Morgan Hatten Out 2-4 Weeks

1/28/2008

Amanda Robinson was the Most Outstanding Player of the 2007 America East Championships.

Morgan Hatten is the Retrievers' leading rebounder this season.

BALTIMOREThe UMBC women’s basketball team received some good news and some bad news last week. The Retrievers learned that senior center Amanda Robinson, who was expected to miss the entire season, will return to the team for Wednesday’s game at Boston University. However, the Retrievers also discovered that senior guard Morgan Hatten will be out two to four weeks after undergoing knee surgery on Friday.

Robinson, the Most Outstanding Player of the 2007 America East Championships and the team’s third-leading scorer and second-leading rebounder last season, gave birth to a son, Jaden, in late December. Expected to miss the entire season and return for the 2008-09 campaign, Robinson decided to exhaust her eligibility this year because she plans to graduate in May.

Robinson averaged 10.3 points and 5.2 rebounds per game and shot 42.7 percent from the floor last season, when she played all 33 games and made 28 starts. She averaged 15.3 points and 6.3 rebounds in UMBC’s three America East Tournament games, leading the Retrievers in a stunning Cinderella run to the NCAA Tournament.

Hatten injured her left knee early in the game at Vermont on Jan. 20 and sat out the final 36 minutes, as well as the Retrievers’ next contest at Albany. She had arthroscopic surgery to remove the torn part of her meniscus on Friday and will likely be out for two to four weeks.

Hatten started the first 17 games for the Retrievers and is averaging 7.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.8 steals, ranking among the America East’s leaders in rebounds, assists, blocks, steals, field goal percentage and minutes played.
